After a 9 month slumber, musical giant Groove on Grove emerges from the underground PATH tunnel to an obviously much different Jersey City. While PSEG is busy tearing up the new bike lane on Columbus, the new sounds of the city have been jack, jack hammer that is. So it will be nice to sweeten the audio landscape with some local home grown music, arts, eats and drinks. Things start early at 5:30 today with a dance performance by Nimbus Dance Works then Puerto Rican Folklorers Segunda Quimbamba then The One and Nines take the stage. Last call is at 8:45 pm wear a spring jacket mother nature doesn’t want you to catch a spring cold. On May 13th, join us for as local upstart record label Mulberry Sound Recording showcase with CachaBacha, Kadian Quartet, and Professor Caveman. On May 20th, our One Mike Only showcase features Dan O’Dea and Eagle Ridge, Donna Missal, and a Drum and a Tantrum. If you have to leave early, warm up at Union Republic with some banjo and brothing, Tonight’s guest performer for the UR of BlueGrass is Sean Kiely. Things start with at 8 pm with Sean Kiely joining Dan O’dea and Eagle Ridge, after 10 the band opens up mike. $5 Beers, $8 wines and $10 cocktails. Tonight’s also UR strongman’s Noah Sexton’s birthday. If you need some laughs first, stop by Two Boots Pizza for another installment of Rich Kiamaco [Laugh Tour] Pizza and Punchlines, six plus comedians will duel it out for the last slice of a pizza, things will get fugly. Up in teh heights, take your own turn at the mike for the weekly Friggin Fabulous Open Mike at the Trolley Car.
I’m back at Ladies Night this Thursday [05/07]. Next Thursday [05/14] join lower case p and me as we countdown songs about girls from A to Z, this one will be for the Ladies, to start the night off I’ll be at WFMU for Superchunk|Merge Records frontman Mac McCaughan gig at WFMU Monty Hall. who like the rest of us just wants to know girls . Then following week [05/21] it’s a Girls on Girls night takeover with DJ WhoreKit.
This weekend, I’m joining the Jersey City Art School celebrate the opening of their newest location in the prime real estate of Hamilton Park and their 5th year of constant expansion, less McDonald’s have opened up in the same time period ! THE JCAS Jubilee features Live music featuring two sets by Shayfer James ! Drinks such as our signature JCAS Julep, Food by JCpopUP Restaurant and GP’s Restaurant. Tickets are $50 Pre-order Online/$60 at the door. This event is a dressy affair. Oh and I’m going to DJ this. Earlier in the Day NJ Beer company celebrates their of 5 years with a partially belated Cinco de NJ Beer at Hamilton Inn, oh my this will be a big day. Looking forward to taking a victory lap when the night is done with DJ Vidal Sasson at Lucky’s.
Finally, we are 10 days away from the 4th Annual Pushing Up the Daisies, with 11 local bands on the RocknRoll HiFives, Miss Ohio, Higgins, Bodega Dream, AMINAL, Cicada Radio, Hey Anna
Cold Fur, and Black Wail with a couple more we are locking in. There will be eats from KoroKoro RiceBall Cafe, Craft Brews supplied by funky brewsters the Thirsty Quaker, sound support from JC Studios and Moonlight Mile Recording and of course the goats will be in attendance.
