then it will be 13 days until the 10th Annual Ghost of Uncle Joe’s Halloween Ball and fundraiser at the cemetery. With 11 bands at the cemetery and 7 more bands at after parties at Porta and LITM we are hoping to surpass last year’s total of nearly $18,000 to help this treasured landmark that is maintained by a dedicated all volunteer mission, the 1832 landmark has a modest monthly expenditures of about $3,000 for operating expenses, such as utilities, heating, insurance, landscaping equipment and maintenance, as well stipends for out two veterans that live on and protect the cemetery. Our focus on has been primarily on daily needs, while long term projects and capital improvements have been not a mission priority. However, in 2014 we generated nearly $30,000 from our events, and along with a matching grant from the Hudson County Freeholders, where able to replace the roof on our gatekeeper’s house. In 2015, we raised nearly $18,000 from The Ghost of Uncle Joe’s and we are seeking to raise additional money for the replacement of the driveway and masonry work to the gatekeeper’s house as well create level paths and walkways through our other hilly landscape which has an estimated cost of nearly $50,000. If you cant make the date please donate at www.jerseycitycemetery.org .
